Climate Strategy Workshop

Help develop our Climate Action Strategy

Our 2019 UCA NSW/ACT Synod meeting agreed to a proposal to develop a Synod-wide Climate Action Strategy to reduce carbon emissions across all councils and agencies of the Church and to advocate to Federal, State and local governments to take decisive steps to reduce our emissions nationally.

This resolution will mean the establishment of a Climate Action Strategy Reference Group to oversee development, implementation and monitoring of the climate change strategy, for a period of three years. This Reference Group will begin by holding an open meeting to gather input and ideas from the wider church, and to establish task groups to help implement different areas.

We want you there, Tuesday 10th of December

10-12:15 Deep Despair, Ferocious Hope

Venue Pitt St Uniting Church, (264 Pitt St)

Jason & Jess will open space for us to acknowledge the pain which any sane person feels when they open their eyes to the state of the world, and then gird up our loins to engage with the fight for a safe climate future!  A tiny bit of theory and a whole lot of sharing.

This session is especially designed to help those of us attending the 1:30 Climate Task Group workshop prepare ourselves emotionally, open our imaginations, connect with ourselves and each other, so that we can really hit the ground running together when we come to discuss strategy and tactics.  Those who can’t make the later workshop are very welcome.

12:30-1:30 Free catered lunch

level 4 meeting room, 222 Pitt St

Nourish the body, and the soul as we get to know the others in the room, who take the connection between Christian discipleship and climate action or earth care as a given.

1:30 –  3:30 Presentations and Workshop

level 4 meeting room, 222 Pitt St

Hear from the leadership of Uniting and the NSW.ACT Synod about the task group given responsibility for setting emission reduction targets, and implementing them, for the church’s agencies, missions and schools.  Have feedback into the proposed scope and process.  Establish other task groups to further the climate action and advocacy of congregations and individuals.

3:30 – 5 Strategy and Planning
